Best friends Flo and Ethel live at White Willows extra care housing scheme in Jordanthorpe, Sheffield. The ladies met 20 years ago at a dancing club on Barnsley Road and for the past 18 months have lived next door to each other at the 60 apartment, South Yorkshire Housing Association, development.
Florence Robinson who celebrated her 90th Birthday on the 11th May is an avid gardener, and is currently cultivating White Willows’ flower beds.
Ethel Colk will be 100years old on Tuesday 7th June, celebrations will be held at White Willows, with attendance from the Lord Mayor, Dr Sylvia Dunkley, and with food and drinks provided by the on-site restaurant.
SYHA Project Manager, Siobhan Cunningham said: ‘Ethel is our first resident to reach 100 years of age and it’s wonderful to be able to say she still lives independently in her 2 bedroom apartment here at White Willows. Flo and Ethel are very close, and Flo is always there to wheel Ethel around.’
Centenarian Ethel Colk, said: ‘The best thing about living at White Willows is being with my friends, especially Flo, the brilliant care and the beautiful and spacious building – I’m so happy to live here.’
