Edna and Donald Hinds (both aged 81 years) celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary after 60 years of marriage on Thursday 2nd June.
The couple who started courting at 17 and married at 21 say the secret to a happy marriage is ‘give and take’.
The diamond couple are Sheffield born and bread, and have lived all over the city throughout their many years of marriage. Don and Edna settled in Jordanthorpe 40 years ago, and now live at White Willows, the SYHA extra care housing development in Jordanthorope, Sheffield.
Don, an ex-postman, said: ‘We go back a long way, I borrowed Edna’s Christening shawl as a little-un, we started courting at 17 and now we’ve been married for 60 years!
The secret really is that there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for Edna, and there’s nothing Edna wouldn’t do for me.’
Don and Edna, who have already received a letter of congratulations from the queen, will be having a big party on Saturday 4th June at White Willows, with attendance from all their friends and family – even their grandson who now lives in New Zealand.
