Nearing completion of the second year of delivery; the Basketball Respect Project is designed to promote sport to young people with the aim of helping to reduce anti-social behaviour in SYHA communities, including Arbourthorne in Sheffield; Maltby in Rotherham and Worsbrough in Barnsley.

The project, delivers a community awareness day and 6 hours worth of basketball coaching in each school. The partnership held a celebration event on Friday 1st July between 10am-12pm, at The English Institute of Sport - Sheffield (EISS). Each of the participating schools sent a team of young people to take part in a tournament, where all participants were presented with prizes for their sporting achievements.

SYHA Resident, Dennis Dobson, said: ‘The Basketball Respect Project is amazing.’

SYHA Housing Services Director, Sharron Dyett, said: ‘We are really proud of our partnership with One Health Sharks Sheffield, which is proving popular with young people in our communities. ’

Over the past two years we have been able to engage with approximately 1,000 primary school pupils, using our players as role models to encourage these young people into positive activities and lifestyles.
