Before you let anyone into your home who you don't know, you should ask to see their identification (ID) card.
All SYHA staff wear a name badge and if they visit you in your home they will be carrying an identification card.
Simple precautions:
- Talk to people through the door, rather than opening it.
- Ask who they are before opening the door
- Keep the door on the chain until you have seen their ID
- Make sure the back door is closed and locked before answering your front door
The Governments Lock, Stop, Chain, Check campaign provides more security information for dealing with bogus callers. Visit their website for more information.
