Norwood Street, Dalton, Rotherham
This scheme has proved to be key in the strategic redevelopment of the Dalton area.
Previously, this was a run-down housing estate but over the last 5 years the whole area has been demolished and rebuilt. The Norwood Street site provides eleven 2 bedroom, 3 person bungalows, 9 of which are general needs and 2 supported housing.
Development of the site involved lengthy negotiations with the local authority over road closure and layout, resulting in a delay getting the scheme onsite. Work began in April 2003 and took 11 months to complete.
Contrasting facing bricks and profiled roof tiles create a traditional homely appearance. All the properties have private driveways, turfed front gardens and high quality timber fencing. The main roof projects over each main entrance to form a canopy which protects residents and visitors from the rain.
SYHA also worked in partnership with Rotherham Council to provide a brick wall and decorative steel railings along the Doncaster Road elevation to further enhance the street scene.
