Diversity, Equality and your right to be treated fairly
‘To treat me equally you may need to treat me differently’
At South Yorkshire Housing Association we respect and embrace diversity, equality and the right to fair treatment. For us diversity is about recognising and understanding individual differences and equality is concerned with ensuring that people from under-represented groups are provided with fair and equal opportunities to participate and access our services.
Our Board members, Directors and staff are committed to developing and improving homes and services. We will ensure all of our customers can access those homes, services and jobs and are treated fairly and in a non-discriminatory way whilst doing so.
This will include providing housing that meets your needs in areas you want to live and provide services that you find easy to access.
We will adapt homes and services to meet the needs of individual residents and the communities we work with.
We will strongly challenge all forms of discrimination especially on grounds of race, gender, age, sexuality, religion/faith or disability and will not tolerate any unacceptable behaviour or harassment towards staff, residents or customers on these grounds.
All of our strategies, policies and procedures are developed and reviewed in line with our Diversity Strategy and our Customer Promises. We follow an assessment procedure when we develop new, or change existing policies and services. This is to ensure that we reflect the diverse needs and expectations of our customers and potential customers.
We set annual diversity and equality targets and expect all of our Departmental Service Plans to include their own diversity and equality priorities. We have a Diversity Action Team who meet on a regular basis to monitor, support and advise our Senior Management Team and our Board of Directors on matters of Diversity and Equality.
We have a ‘Code of Conduct’ that will ensure our staff will adhere to the principles of diversity and equality; the right to fair treatment; courtesy and respect; and we provide training to enable them to do so.
If you feel at any stage in your dealings with SYHA that you have not been treated fairly, with courtesy or respect you have the right to complain. Please go to How to make a complaint.
