Right to Acquire gives eligible residents the right to acquire the home they currently rent.
The discounts given are fixed amounts published by the government and currently range from £9,000 to £10,000. The amount of discount received depends on where you live.
Not all residents, properties or tenancy types are eligible for Right to Acquire.
To be eligible you must:
- Be a secure or assured resident.
- Have spent a total of two years as a public sector resident.
- Live in a self contained house or flat which is your only or main home.
- Be the named resident of a home that has been built or purchased by SYHA on or after 1 April 1997 through a kind of grant provided by the Housing Corporation or a Local Authority. Or the named resident of a home transferred from a local council to SYHA on or after 1 April 1997.
There are a number of other reasons why a property might not be eligible. For example if a home is designed for elderly people or people with physical disabilities.
If you think you qualify for the scheme or would like more information contact Val Harrison on 0114 290 0340 or by email using v.harrison@syha.co.uk
