We have tried to make this site easy for first time internet users but if you are stuck, this section should help you.
How do I get around this site? If you want to go to an area on the site, click with the mouse buttons to go there. For example, roll your mouse pointer up and down the menu on the left, when it is over the section you want to visit, click. To get back to the front page at any time click on the 'Home' button, top left. If you can go to another section of the site via a link in the text, the text will be underlined like this and the mouse pointer will change to a hand, and the text will change colour. If you click with the mouse on this section of text it will take you to more information on that topic. Don't worry if you go to the wrong page, if you click on Back on the Buttons bar in Internet Explorer, or View > Go to > Back. You can do this again and again, until you get back to where you want to be. Anywhere your pointer looks like a hand rather than an arrow or I then it means you can click and go somewhere else on the site (you may not want to!) How do I change my screen settings? This site looks best with a screen resolution (the size of what is shown) of 800 x 600. To change this on a PC running the Windows 95 and upwards operating system, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings and change the desktop area by using the sliding bar. On an Apple Macintosh, you can use the Monitor & Sound Control Panel to change the resolution. How do I get back to this site if I leave it?
The address of our site is http://www.syha.co.uk How can I find what I need on your site? Try going to the Search Page - by choosing what you want to search for, either your location by postcode or by a particular word, for example repairs, and then click on the eye picture to search. The text is too small for me to read - how can I change it? In Internet Explorer go to View > Text size and select Larger or Largest. You could also try changing the screen resolution. If you know the URL (this is the address of the site - for example www.bbc.co.uk, then you can type this in the address bar and press return or go to File > Open. Every site will have a unique URL (address), and you will be able to navigate (move around the site) by using the mouse to click on buttons or icons and linked text. However, some sites are a lot more sophisticated than others, and may require you to have a recent version of your browser (the application that allows you to view web pages). You may also need plugins (a bit of program that plugs in to the browser and lets it open different files - for example Real audio and Shockwave.) We have tried to limit our use of plugins, so that the information that we have included is accessible to as many people as possible. Why do some funny symbols come up on sites sometimes? These could be icons that represent an image that is being downloaded by your computer, or it could be part of the site that you can't see because you don't have the right plugins. Why do some sections on some sites take ages to load? This could be because the file sizes are large - for example, big pictures, big audio files. It could also be because your connection to the Internet is slow, or because there are a lot of people looking at our site, which means that our computer is working hard - so be patient!! Or try again later, when the internet is quieter - and there are less users surfing. If you have any questions about this site, or you find something that we haven't covered in this section that you would like to know about email us and we will do our best to answer your questions. |
