They’re combining practical experience gained working with colleagues based at our HMT and NEAT depot with studying for a nationally recognised qualification at a local college. At the end of their apprenticeship they’ll be equipped with real, work-ready skills, plus a qualification in their chosen subject.
Our Organisational Development Manager, Alison Hewitt, and Tertia Johnson, our Organisational Development Partner, explain why the benefits of apprenticeships work both ways:
“For SYHA, apprenticeships reflect our core values: investing in people, creating sustainable opportunities, and fostering an inclusive workforce where everyone can thrive. Not only are we supporting our apprentices with hands-on experience in a variety of different fields across the organisation so they can reach their potential and build a foundation for their future career prospects, we are strengthening our organisation with fresh talent, who bring new perspectives.” Alison
“Apprenticeships also bring an array of benefits for the individual. In addition to achieving nationally recognised qualifications, they gain practical experience and invaluable tacit knowledge from experts in their field and through exposure to a real working environment, without the financial burden of other learning routes.
Our apprentices range from school leavers gaining direct access to a career, to longstanding employees upskilling for more challenging roles.” Tertia
Here four of our apprentices, Amelia Schofield, Thomas Richardson, Charlie Bradley and Harry McMahon talk about their experience of an apprenticeship with SYHA and why they’re gaining much more than hands-on learning and a qualification –they’re building life skills too...
