We were pleased to recently host a Minister visit to our five brand-new homes in Waverley, Rotherham, in partnership with South Yorkshire Housing Partnership (SYHP), Great Places Housing Group and PlaceShapers.

Minister for Climate, Katie White OBE MP met Larry Gold, our Chief Executive, and other colleagues on a visit to our new eco homes to learn more about the role housing associations play in improving sustainability and delivering on the region’s ambition to be net zero economy by 2040.

“Housing associations play a vital role in building sustainable communities. The Great Places and South Yorkshire Housing Association homes I visited are leading examples.”

The houses are built on a 740-hectare site, which was home to the former Orgreave Colliery and Coking Plant. It is now the largest brownfield mixed-use development in South Yorkshire.

Our five EPC band B rated homes are fully electric and have an air source heat pump, solar panels and electrical vehicle charging.

Katie White OBE MP also met Kirstie, one our customers who has recently moved into their new home on the Waverley site.

Kirstie said:

“Knowing our heating bills are going to be so low this winter is a major plus.”
