We’ve contributed to a new report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The report describes the results of an equality and diversity survey completed by 22 social housing organisations in Yorkshire and Humberside in March 2021.

The analysis shows that many organisations are already taking action, and have adopted a range of good practice.

However, some organisations are much further along their journey of adopting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion than others. Based on the analysis of the survey and benchmarking data, the Yorkshire and Humberside Chief Executive Forum have developed five recommendations for social landlords to improve equality, diversity and inclusion across the sector.

“Last week, someone said to me that the social housing sector will forget about Black Lives Matter and the inclusion agenda. I don’t believe that’s true. This report shows a collective determination to hold ourselves to account and make real and sustained change. South Yorkshire Housing Association is absolutely clear that it will be different this time. It’s not just a passing moment.”

Thank you to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, to all the organisations that completed the survey, and to everyone involved in co-ordinating and analysing the research.

In this year’s Annual Review, we’ll be sharing more about our Race Action Plan, introducing you to our Race and Diversity Lead, and sharing our commitments to making lasting and significant change. Keep an eye out for it in the next few weeks!
