Get involved

We are looking for South Yorkshire Housing Association customers to shape our services, gain new skills, and be rewarded for it!

We are passionate about working with our customers to improve the homes they live in and the services they access, and have a range of flexible opportunities available.

We are looking for SYHA customers to share their skills, experiences and insight, and to represent their community. Find out more about our Customer Committee, Customer Scrutiny Panel, and our Involved Customers list, and read our Frequently Asked Questions about our opportunities to get involved.

Apply to be on our new Customer Committee

Customers that are members of the Customer Committee get £1,061 a year, or you can choose retail vouchers instead.

What’s involved?

The Customer Committee includes SYHA customers, board members and staff. You’ll meet regularly and…

  • give guidance, insight and feedback on issues that affect customers
  • help us connect with more of our customers
  • find out how we’re doing and where we can improve.

Apply to be on our Customer Scrutiny Panel

  • They pick parts of SYHA’s work to look at more closely
  • A friendly staff member from our Customer Experience team is there to support you.

Rewards include:

The panel manages its own budget and gets a voucher for each activity. The group is welcoming, fun and helps make a real difference.

A photo of some of our Customer Experience Team and Customer Scrutiny Panel. Everyone looks very colourful and summery in shorts, sandals and/or bright colours. They are stood in a restaurant and smiling at the camera.

Who can join the groups?

  • You need to be a SYHA customer
  • You will care about your community and want to make a difference
  • You will be open to listening and sharing ideas.

No experience is needed – just your enthusiasm and experience as an SYHA customer.

Both groups will involve some reading and using a computer – but, if that’s a challenge, we can help. What matters most is your commitment. We’re friendly, professional, and here to support you.

You can also have your say quickly and easily by joining our Involved Customers list.

You can do as little or as much as you like. You will be rewarded with retail vouchers or prize draws for taking part in surveys or one-off events.

What’s involved?

  • Completing surveys
  • Asking us questions
  • Invitations to one-off events, online or in-person.

If you’d like to apply for any of these opportunities, or have any questions, you can get in touch by…

  • Emailing us at connect@syha.co.uk
  • Calling us on 0800 1380 380
  • Talking to any SYHA member of staff – they can take your details and we’ll contact you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What experience do I need?

You don’t need any! Your views and feedback are important to us, and we want to hear from you however and whenever suits you.

How do I know which opportunity it best for me?

We can chat to you in more detail about the different ways you can be involved, and most opportunities are flexible. We’ll even let you come along to meetings just to observe to see if it’s for you.

Will I get any support and training?

Yes, we can offer you support and training.

I’d like to join online engagement activities but haven’t got a device. Can you help me with this?

If you are part of our Customer Scrutiny Panel or Customer Committee we can loan you a device and support you to use this.

How much time do I need to commit?

We’ll make sure we are clear from the start about what level of commitment is needed.

Will you pay for my travel?

Yes, we would never expect you to be out of pocket for attending any sessions, and any travel costs would be agreed beforehand and reimbursed.

Will you pay me for my time?

It depends on the sort of engagement activity and the length of time they take. Some opportunities won’t be paid but there are incentives for most of the activities, usually a retail voucher. If you are part of our Customer Committee you can receive a payment.

Why should I get involved?

You will help influence and shape the services SYHA provide, and gain a better understanding about how we work. You can meet new people, share your talents and insight, and build new skills.
