Meet the Board
Our Board of Non-Executive Directors bring a wealth of experience from their respective backgrounds, and use it to hold the organisation to account and ensure that we are operating effectively and achieving our vision to enable people across the Sheffield City Region to settle at home, live well and realise their potential.
Ian Cole – Chair
(Professor Housing Studies at Sheffield Hallam University)
Ian joined our Board in 2017, and was appointed Chair at our AGM.
Ian is a Professor of Housing Studies at the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research at Sheffield Hallam University. He has acted as a special advisor to a range of Government Select Committees, most recently leading on the Department of Work and Pensions response to the proposed Local Housing Allowance cap.
His expertise in research, teaching, analysis and policy development in the field of housing will be invaluable for our future plans for housing in the Sheffield City Region.

Jon has been Chief Executive of Crisis, the national charity for homeless people since 2014. Crisis supports more than 11,000 people each year to find routes out of homelessness, and builds evidence and campaigns for change to end homelessness for good.
Previously he was Chief Operating Officer of UNICEF UK and Chief Executive of SCOPE, the national disability charity. Jon also had a successful commercial career as Human Resources Director of the international technology firm The Generics Group.
He is currently Chair of the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group created by the Scottish Government to find short and long term solutions to homelessness.
(Assistant Chief Executive at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)
Sandi brings more than 20 years’ experience of working across all aspects of the NHS to our Board. With a career starting in Occupational Therapy in Sheffield, she has since gained a wealth of experience in operational and leadership roles across the region.
Sandi holds a Master’s Degree in Health Care Practice, an IoD Diploma in Company Direction and has achieved the NHS Leadership Academy Award in Executive Healthcare Leadership. She is employed as Assistant Chief Executive for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is also a Director of Legacy Park Limited and a Member of the Joint Independent Audit Committee for the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.
Living in Sheffield, Sandi enjoys spending her spare time with her family, running in the Peak District and watching motor sports!
(Development Manager at Public Sector PLC)
Helen, is a Chartered Surveyor and currently works as a Development Manager for London based regeneration and development organisation Public Sector PLC, who specialise in long term joint ventures with local authorities.
She brings expertise in property investment and development and land appraisals, and will play a vital role in helping us build more new homes and finding the land to build them on.
Helen has links to Sheffield having studied her Masters in Property Appraisal and Management at Sheffield Hallam University.
Terry joined our Board in 2017 and was one of our customers, until recently with LiveWell.
We’re delighted that she has decided to share her experiences of being an SYHA customer, and her views will be vital in helping us design, deliver and evaluate new and existing services within our LiveWell portfolio.
She is also a governor at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, and is currently studying for a postgraduate certificate in Recovery in Mental Health.
(Chief Executive of Sheffield Citizens Advice)
Andy joined our Board back in 2014 and he is currently Chief Executive of Sheffield Citizens Advice. Prior to this Andy held several senior NHS positions, latterly as NHS England’s Director for West Yorkshire and before that as Chief Executive of primary care trusts in South Yorkshire.
As the Board’s LiveWell Champion he will help us develop our LiveWell services to meet the needs of our customers and commissioners.
Phil has been on SYHA’s Board since 2011. He is an experienced senior manager and finance professional with over 30 years’ experience in local government, including nearly fifteen years at senior director and corporate director level.
Phil has significant experience of risk management and he is our Board Risk Champion. He is also a member of the Audit Committee.
Kath Chambers has been a tenant of SYHA since 1979 and has served on the Board since 2009.
She is Board Champion for co-production, taking a keen interest in the way we work with our LiveWell customers to develop and design services to meet their needs. Her past experience is in nursing and teaching and she has a Hallam University Level 3 qualification in housing.

John has held a long and varied career in the housing and regeneration field.
In his current role as Director at 4point2 Ltd, John acts as a housing consultant, aiding social housing organisations with business, financial planning and strategic asset management.
John previously held the position of Head of Housing at Sheffield City Council.

Deborah’s current role is Director at local insolvency firm Graywoods.
She has previously served as a Non-Executive Director on the SYHA Enterprises Board since 2014.
As well as her role with SYHA, Deborah is a Non-Executive Director at Yorkshire Icon and a member of the Development Council for Sheffield Theatres.
(Development Team Manager at Sheffield City Council)
Yunus is a Development Team Manager in City Regeneration at Sheffield City Council and brings a wealth of local knowledge on town planning and urban regeneration.
He recently secured significant funding under the Sheffield City Region Investment Funding programme for further city centre infrastructure investment.

Bookey is the Finance and Resources Director at Sheffield Theatres Trust. She provides expert financial advice on our commercial activities, ensuring that we are a profitable organisation.
Bookey ensures that the organisation is compliant with all the necessary statutory, legal and financial requirements.
