New homes in Unstone

Here’s some information about our plans to build new homes on Main Road in Unstone.

These are our initial plans for the new homes. They are some early thoughts, and we’re still working on the design.

 

This design has been inspired by local miners’ cottages and the strong sense of community in Unstone. It features shared, secure green spaces for the community to enjoy.

 

We want our homes to be healthy places to live, and support mental, social and physical wellbeing. The homes will be safe and secure, with good levels of daylight, natural ventilation and access to green space.

We are working with an environmental consultant to make sure the homes are environmentally friendly. This includes creating homes with low fuel bills, and ensuring the development is sustainable and encourages biodiversity.

  • There are 36 homes. They will be a mixture of two and three bedroom terrace houses.
  • It is likely that mostly families and couples will move into these homes.
  • We plan to start work on site in 2021.

They will be a mixture of shared ownership homes, and homes for affordable rent.

Affordable rent is 80% of the cost of renting a similar property from a private landlord.
Shared ownership gives people the option of buying a share of their home (usually between 25-75%) and paying rent on the remaining share. They can continue to buy more shares, until they own 100% of their home. Shared ownership can create a brilliant opportunity for people to get onto the property ladder.

When the properties are ready, we will have a local lettings policy to decide who the homes are offered to. We would like to give priority to those with a local connection to Unstone and the surrounding area. People will be offered properties suitable for their household need and size, and we will draw up a waiting list of interested people when the homes are ready for letting.

Who will look after the homes?

We will manage the rented homes, and the shared ownership properties will be advertised with Crucible Sales and Lettings.

When people apply to move into our homes, we check references from previous landlords to ensure there is no history of anti-social behaviour at their previous tenancies.

We survey all our new tenants, and always have very high satisfaction levels, typically 98-99%. Find out more about our customer feedback.
