Re: Consultation on Transfer of Engagements (merging South Yorkshire Housing Association into Places for People Living+ Limited)

On 1 December 2025, South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) became a subsidiary of Places for People (PfP). PfP is a group of companies that have a shared aim to create thriving communities.

At the time, we explained that the plan was to complete a Transfer of Engagements in the future. A Transfer of Engagements is when one organisation joins another, and they become a single legal entity. In this case, SYHA is joining PfP. We will become a single organisation called PfP.

We are now writing to ask for your views on the proposed Transfer of Engagements between SYHA and Places for People Living+ Limited, another landlord within the PfP Group.

This letter marks the start of a six-week consultation period finishing on 13 December 2026. During this time, you can find out more about the proposed Transfer of Engagements and share your feedback.

A detailed ‘Transfer of Engagements Information’ document is included with this letter. This includes answers to information about how the delivery of some services will change.

If you have any questions or need support to understand the proposals or take part in the consultation, please get in touch – we are here to help.

What is a Transfer of Engagements?

A Transfer of Engagements is a legal process, and SYHA would fully integrate into PfP. We have set a target date of 1 April 2027 to complete the Transfer of Engagements, but this depends on the outcome of the customer consultation.

If the Transfer of Engagements takes place:

  • SYHA would stop operating
  • SYHA’s legal responsibilities would move over to PfP, including tenancies, homes, leases and services
  • SYHA’s employees would become employed by PfP.

What happens to my home or services?

SYHA services will continue as normal until 31 March 2027. From 1 April 2027, our services would be provided by PfP.

If you have a SYHA home, PfP would become your landlord instead of SYHA. You will not have to move home, and your rights, protections and responsibilities would remain the same.

The Transfer of Engagements would not change your rent. Your rent will continue to be reviewed every year, and any changes will be made in line with government rent regulation.

What happens to my personal information?

Any information SYHA has about your home, tenancy or lease would be transferred to PfP on the date of the Transfer of Engagements.

The information will be stored securely at PfP. If you’d like to update your personal or contact details, please get in touch with us by calling 0800 1380 380 or emailing enquiries@syha.co.uk

The benefits of completing the Transfer of Engagements

The proposed Transfer of Engagements will have many long-term advantages for SYHA customers and local communities, including:

  • Investing £27m in SYHA homes over 10 years
  • Building 50 new homes per year, increasing to 100 per year by 2036
  • Adopting PfP’s net zero strategy. This will help us to make homes warmer and more energy efficient, and to reduce carbon emissions
  • Creating opportunities for further growth and influence in the region.

Some benefits have taken place since SYHA became a subsidiary of PfP in December 2025. This year, PfP has supported us to significantly increase investment in our homes and communities – we’ve installed more windows, doors, boilers, and kitchens over the last 12 months compared to the last financial year.

More about Places for People

PfP is the UK’s leading Social Enterprise, creating and supporting Thriving Communities that move lives forward.

It provides and manages safe, good-quality homes, builds new homes in the places they’re needed most, and works alongside Customers and Communities to create opportunities across education, health and wellbeing, employment and inclusion.

As a registered provider of social housing, PfP is regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) and is required to meet the same regulatory standards that apply to SYHA.

Last year, the RSH awarded PfP its highest Consumer Standards grading of C1, recognising that it is delivering the outcomes expected for Customers and Communities.

This means that PfP has demonstrated that its customers have safe, well-maintained homes, and receive clear communication and support. It also shows that PfP listens to customers and acts on their feedback. For more about PfP, please visit their website.

If we don’t proceed with the Transfer of Engagements, SYHA would remain as a separate organisation and still part of the PfP Group.

We will let you know the outcome of the consultation by writing to you and publishing the information on our website early in 2027.
