The National Housing Federation (NHF) helps housing associations to offer affordable, high-quality homes and support.

They do this by…

  • shaping and influencing housing policy
  • creating opportunities for housing associations to share learning and make improvements
  • supporting the sector to collaborate, improve and fulfil our purpose.

Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome Maggie Galliers CBE, Chair of the NHF, to learn more about what we do. It was a great opportunity to share our ambitions, understand more about the NHF’s work and priorities, and spend time with customers and teams from across the organisation.

We started the day at our office in Sheffield, and Maggie spent time with our Chair and Executive Team, and people from our Changing Futures programme. Our (recently award-winning) Changing Futures programme champions co-production and the value of sharing lived experience.

Denise and Roy have been SYHA customers for 50 years, and they’ve generously shared their talents and experiences in our Customer Communication and Customer Improvement Panels. Alongside some other customers, they also spent time with Maggie and talked about the services and support we offer.

We also help people to stay and thrive in work – and our Good Work team joined us to share more. They talked about the value of employment services, and how people can flourish when they’re supported to find the right role.

The day ended with a visit to White Willows. Our extra-care homes are joyful places to live, and offer apartments that empower people to live as independently as possible. There are activities and opportunities to get involved in – including spending time in the lovely gardens, arts and craft clubs, and events in the communal spaces. We also popped over the road to visit Dyche Drive, a friendly community that’s home to some of our houses for affordable rent.

A big thank you to all the customers that joined us.

We’re sure that Maggie and her colleagues will take your stories, experiences and insights back to the teams at the National Housing Federation (as well a small token of our appreciation – a bottle of locally-produced Henderson’s Relish!)
